We join institutions to receive education right? Then why do we always talk about literacy rate and not education rate. May be this is why the students pasing out of the schools colleges and universities are literate but not educated. By definition literacy is the ability to read and write and yes there are billions of people in the world who can read and write, but the question here is, are they all educated? Literacy may help you to converse, to talk, but education will let you hold a conversation long enough for your point to be communicated effectively. Literacy may help you speak but education builds an understanding of what to speak when to speak whom to speak and how to speak. You dont have to be literate to be educated. People have remarkable grades and poitions yet if you talk to them, all the shine and glitter washes away because at the start, they may seem as the most knowlegdable people around but afterwards conversation will seem to bear no fruit. Whereas, the conversation with an educated, but not that literate man, may not involve fancy words and structured sentences but it will be worth your time. So, the next time when you walk into your institution to learn, learn to be educated more than being just literate. Literatecy may pave way towards handsome salary and a wonderful job but education will help you in maintaining that job.
